Coahuila generated 45,939 new jobs during 2021, placing it among the three states that created the most jobs during the fiscal year, based on figures provided by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS in spanish).
According to the Secretary of Labor (Setra in spanish), the trend marks an increase for the current year, which would help increase the 803,412 jobs registered with the IMSS.
Nazira Zogbi Castro, head of Setra, said that the investments that the state has received have helped to achieve these figures, which are historic due to the injection of capital that took place last year with the arrival of new companies and expansions of those already established.
“In July 2020 the economic reactivation began and, until December 2021, after 16 months have passed, time that has been continuous in the recovery of job positions, which allowed us to reach 65,678 formal jobs to face the ravages caused by the confinement due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” the official pointed out.
She said that the first purpose of the administration was to recover the 42,975 jobs that were lost during the critical stage of the pandemic, an objective that was achieved last June, so there has been a 143.4% recovery in labor matters at a general level.
Zogbi Castro shared that this year could have a better labor performance due to the investments that are programmed in the state, since Saltillo, Torreon and Piedras Negras are consolidating as the cities with the greatest attraction of companies.
In that sense, he pointed out that in 2021, 59 plant projects that were installed in the state and others that expanded their operations were finalized, which had an investment value of 4,468 million dollars and helped create 33,541 jobs directly.
“By 2022, 53 national and foreign investment projects are in process, of which approximately 90% are expected to be completed thanks to the alliance with the productive sector and the certainty that exists in this area so that they can develop their operations in a perfect manner,” he concluded.
